Official Biography

Jermyn K.Y. Voon is a political involvement activist and advocate in the City of Calgary. He is also an aspiring, young businessman & politician from Calgary, Alberta.
Jermyn is an eager, dedicated, determined, and enthusiastic as well as an ambitious person. Born on July 9, 1989 in a small town called Whitecourt, Alberta, he is a graduate of St. Mary’s Senior High School in Calgary, Alberta.
Mr. Voon is a sophomore at the Bissett School of Business at Mount Royal College/University in the General Business Administration program. He is presently working as Senior Cashier/Supervisor at Sunterra Market. Jermyn has worked part-time and on a casual-basis as an Account Manager, Executive Assistant & Talent Agent for Quicksilver Entertainment, a local entertainment company specializing in the area of street magic and motivational speaking. He has participated in Junior Achievement Southern Alberta 2004 as Vice President of Information Technology for the company – We’re Gellin’. He finds politics and business very interesting and plans to be businessman with a specialization in accounting & politician when he is finished school.
During his time at college/university, he has been very active in student life. Jermyn is currently the Vice President of Operations / Director of Communications for The Democracy Club of Mount Royal, a student-club at Mount Royal College; he and his friend founded that, is geared toward empowering and inspiring students to take action and get involved in the political process. In addition he is also the Vice President of Finance of another political-based another club. In March 2009, he was a candidate for the position of Business & Entrepreneurial Studies Representative in the Students’ Association of Mount Royal College Student Council Elections, receiving 34% of the popular vote which works out to be 171 out of 510 votes. He also is a volunteer with the AcessAbility Centre.
After only his first year of business school, Jermyn landed a full-time summer job with the Canada Revenue Agency in the Business Audit Division, where he had his first hand experience with accounting and auditing. His duties were to assist the clerk with Corporate, Property and Vehicle Searches as well as perform Land Title Searches. His job duties were eventually extended to assist other auditors with performing basic pre-screening and auditing of Corporate Financial Statements pertaining to T2 Corporate Tax Returns.
As a person who has had an interest in politics for a long time, Jermyn has been very involved in his home riding of Calgary-West. He has volunteered with 7 different political campaigns which include municipal, provincial, federal and student politics. In the 2008 Alberta provincial election, Jermyn volunteered timeless hours in with his candidate, Beth Gignac. He has also has recently volunteered with the Alberta Young Liberals as their Calgary West Liberal Youth Co-Chair. Currently, Jermyn serves as a Director on the Calgary West federal Liberal riding association and also served as a Campaign Assistant with the Jennifer Pollock’s 2008 federal election campaign.
He also has volunteered for Mayor Dave Bronconnier’s Campaign and with numerous other political campaigns and programs, including the LINKages Foundation (the Friends of Seniors Foundation) for two years.
